Three Men Gets 12 years IHL for Burglary and Theft

The Malawi Court in Mangochi district has convicted and sentenced three people to 12 years imprisonment with hard labour(IHL) for burglary and theft contrary to section 309 and 278 of the penal code.

The three have been identified as Mathews Davis,30, Edward Frank,30, and a 32-year-old Snoden Michael.

They were found guilty of two offences and it was reported in court that1st February 2016 they broke into a house of Kina Daudi where they stole K0.9 Milion worth of airtime vouchers.

The Malawi Star reported this matter a couple of days ago when the Convicts were nabbed by Police after the same criminals cut off a finger of the owner of the house as she was trying to stop them.

First accused person was arrested in Mangochi which and the rest were apprehended in Blantyre.

According to Mangochi Police deputy Public Relations officer, Amina Tepani Daudi, all the three suspects pleaded guilty to all the two charges.

Passing the sentence, Second Grade Magistrate Augustine Mizaya said that what the convicts did to the house owner was inhumane hence they deserved a stiff punishment.

In a related development, Nasibu Umali who hails from Pendwe Village, Traditional Authority Malembanchazi in Nkhotakota district has been sentenced to 72 months IHL for burglary and theft of a bicycle and other items.

Nkhotakota First Grade Magistrate Judge Fred Juma Chilowetsa found him guilty of both offences and therefore he sentenced him to 6 years IHL in order to deter other would-be offenders.
