A Magistrate Court in Mangochi district has sentenced a 32-year- old man to 15 months imprisonment with hard labour for cheating.

The Convict has been identified as Derrick Thole of Zambian nationality who was arrested for an offence of cheating contrary to section 321 of the penal code.
According to evidence presented by Prosecutor sub-inspector Mwauluka, the Court was told that the convict cheated an Airtel agent of which he demanded a cash transaction of about MK0.3 Million and went away after he got the money.
“On 29th March 2016 at about 1000hours, the accused person came to an Airtel Agent within Mangochi Township where he demanded a transfer of Airtel money from his account worthy MK320,000.00 to another account and when he knew that the transactions has been completed he escaped,” Mwauluka told the Court.
The Prosecutor said the convict fooled the shop owner as if he wanted to answer the call outside the shop.
Then the matter was reported to Mangochi Police and the investigations team set up a manhunt for him and later found him in Balaka district where they apprehended him.
Derrick hails from Chalinga village, Traditional Authority Mzamani in Shadiza district in Zambia.

Why not say MK300 000,
Useless story
Arrested for cheating? What a charge. How many people are going to be arrested. Is the charge not “obtaining money by false pretence?” reporting……….
