Salesman Steals MK9 Million

Police in the Eastern region district of Malawi are hunting for a man who is suspected of pocketing money close to MK9 Million from his employers.

The Suspect has been identified as 49-year-old Winesi Lesta, who until the day of the incident was employed as a Salesman at Global Distribution branch in Mangochi.

Confirming the development to The Malawi Star, Eastern Region Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Autilia Kamanga, said the incident happened at the end of last month.

According to Kamanga, the suspect was nowhere to be seen for about 48 hours and this prompted management to go and open the door of the shop and conduct a stock-taking exercise.

“On 29th March 2016 the Salesman at the branch went missing leaving the shop locked and on 01/04/16 the management forced open the door and conducted a stock-taking,” said Kumanga.

The Law enforcers Spokesperson further disclosed that the stock taking revealed that the money amounting to MK8,905,890.00 was missing from the shop. She further added that Police are doing everything to apprehend the suspect.

“Currently, investigations are underway and efforts to trace the whereabouts of the suspect,” added the Spokesperson.

 

The Suspect hails from Mpunga Village, Traditional Authority Kadewere in Chiradzulu district.
