Criminals Still On the Run In Mangochi

Police in the eastern region of Malawi are still hunting for unknown criminals who broke into various government offices and walked away with many items.

, Mangochi Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Sergeant Amina Daudi said a manhunt has been launched.

“What I can say this morning is that no one has been arrested so far in connection with the matter,” said Daudi.

Eastern Region Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Autilia Kamanga told this publication that on 24th this month, unknown armed robbers stormed Mangochi District Commissioners Offices where they tied two security guards who were on duty and they broke into the offices.

From the DC’s office complex, they stole a Toyota Hilux Double cab registration number 018 MG 033 which was later found dumped at Malangalanga along Mangochi – Chilipa road after it got stuck in the mud.

They also went away with 10,000 airtime vouchers worth K24,000, Masters and Bachelors certificates and promotion letters.

They further went to Tourism offices where they stole a Dell Laptop and K40,000 in cash .

At the District Development Fund offices, they went away with K372,000 in cash and at the Auditors’ office they stole three laptops.

The criminals also broke into the Cashiers Office and Management Information office where they stole K80,000 in cash and one laptop respectively.

According to the Police, the suspects fired several shots into the air a few times in order to scare off the public.
