The Consumer Association of Malawi (CAMA) Chairperson John Kapito has branded the leader of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Lazarus Chakwera as ‘Judas Iscariot’ for betraying Malawians.
Speaking during peaceful demonstrations this week over the current hardships being faced by Malawians, Kapito said Chakwera chose a Toyota Prado instead of speaking on behalf of Malawians who are suffering due to the price increase on essential commodities, unemployment, food shortage, lack of drugs in the hospitals and the depreciation of our currency.
“He is a Judas Iscariot. After receiving that Toyota Prado, he stopped speaking on behalf of these poor Malawians who are finding life very difficult due to the current economic situation.”
We are very disappointed with him as a leader of the opposition. We thought we had somebody who would pressurize this government to come up with policies that will improve the living standards of Malawians but he chose a car over us,” he said.
He also branded government as the biggest failure for letting poor Malawians suffer due to poor policies being taken in governing the country.
He said the high levels of unemployment and shortage of food in Admarc depots is a sign of poor leadership skills by the current Peter Mutharika’ Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) led government.
The demonstrations took place yesterday with a march from Blantyre Old Town to Chichiri Shoprite.
