Woman killed in a car accident

A Malawian woman has died and eight other people, have sustained serious injuries, after a family vehicle they were travelling in overturned near Usiska area in Nkhata bay district.

Witnesses have validated that the car overturned three times, a situation which saw a woman dying on the spot.

The other remaining passengers were also severely wounded and were rushed to Mzuzu Central Hospital for medical attention.

“It was a terrible accident because the vehicle overturned about three times. At a time we approached the scene, the woman had already died due to severe hemorrhage,” said the witness.

The Malawi Star team followed up the tragedy and found that two among the admitted casualties were discharged from the hospital.

Among them was a son of the deceased woman, Julius Nungu, who confirmed that his father was also severely wounded due to the accident.

“We had a family drive from Mzimba to Usiska in Nkhata bay and when we reached a certain place, the driver failed to control the vehicle thus we met our fate,” said Nungu.

When we went to press the driver who also survived the tragedy, clarified that the accident happened because the vehicle shaft blocked.

Mzuzu central hospital publicist, Frank Banda confirmed the accident while expressing optimism that the remaining victims may be discharged anytime.

When filing this report, Nkhata bay Police Publicist, Ignatius Esau, was yet to bear out supplementary details on the tragedy.

However, The Malawi Star understands that all passengers who were on board, hails from Hannock Longwe village, Inkosi M’mbelwa in Mzimba district.
