The Malawi Police Service is yet to apprehend Panga welding thugs who severely injured about four people on Sunday at Chibavi Primary School Ground where the Malawi Congress party (MCP) held a solidarity rally with People’s Party and Alliance for Democracy (AFORD).

Mzuzu Police Publicist Martine Bwanali who confirmed the development said they (Police) only managed to help the wounded victims with Police statements which were required for their medical attention.

“No one has since been arrested in connection with the violence but so far we have managed to help the victims with police statements for their medical attention,” said Bwanali.

The Malawi Star understands that Malawi Police Service (MPS) failed to provide adequate security at the rally thus the thugs had all the chances to wound people without the confines of the law enforcers.

Inside sources confided that the Malawi Police Service was advised never to provide security to all opposition politicians and on their rallies.

It has also been established that the thugs intended to butcher all top officials including Chakwera and Kamlepo Kalua who facilitated the function.

When The Malawi Star arrived on the scene, Chakufwa Ennock Chihana of AFORD was on the podium bemoaning the misconduct while implicating President Peter Mutharika as a prime sponsor of the violence.

He went on to declare that Mutharika’s downfall is near as evidenced by his tendency of hiring thugs to kill people.

“I am already dead, hence being called Chakufwa and if Mutharika is trying to try me, he better prepare himself because, just like my father before me, I am an iron of fire,” said Chihana.

Lazarus Chakwera of MCP urged Mutharika to stop wasting money on thugs and start buying maize for the hungry Malawians.

Meanwhile, separate information sourced by this publication indicates that these thugs were hired by some Peoples Party top officials to reprove the party’s decision of forming an alliance with MCP.

Meanwhile, the wounded victims are receiving medication at Mzuzu Central Hospital and Chakwera has promised to hold another rally in Mzuzu soon.
