Sheriffs in Blantyre on Tuesday went ahead and seized a car and office furniture belonging to Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) due to MK18 million debts.

The development follows failure by MEC to pay Universal Trading and Trans World Radio.

According to Judiciary spokesperson Mlenga Mvula, a warrant was issued by the High Court.

“The sheriffs were executing a warrant issued by the High Court,” said Mvula,

Last year, MEC officials were accused of fraud, in flouting of procurement and recruitment procedures at the institution from July 2012 to December 2014.
