NBS Bank Robbery Case Adjourned

A Magistrate court in Nkhotakota has adjourned the case of two men who are accused of breaking into the district’s New Building Society (NBS) Bank last week.

Court1The two are a 28-year-old, Weton Humba and a 38-year-old Jeffrey Phiri who are reported to have stolen one CCTV [Closed Circuit Television] server and 2 HP computers from the bank after smashing through a window.

The suspects were arrested last week in Lilongwe and were found with different weapons which are suspected to have been used when committing the said offence.

Police used Anti Motor theft department in Lilongwe to track down the motor vehicle registration number CK 3369 which was used by the suspects a getaway car.

They appeared before Nkhotakota Magistrate court on Monday 14th March 2016 where they pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to Nkhotakota Police public relations Officer, Williams Kaponda, the suspects have hired a lawyer to represent them.

Currently, they are remanded to Nkhotakota prison and they are expected to return to Court on 23rd March 2016. The state is expected to parade five witnesses to testify against them.

Humba hails from Saiwa village, Traditional Authority Makwangwala in Ntcheu while Phiri comes from Traditional Authority Jalasi in Mangochi.
