Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has failed to vacate the Court Injunction that was obtained by Dedza Young Soccer on Friday morning against the Playoffs.

Dedza: obtained the injuction
Dedza: obtained the injunction

Dedza obtained the injunction just hours before Wizards and Airborne Rangers game and was served on Friday evening forcing Sulom to cancel all the remaining games.

According to Dedza’s General Secretary Harold Mula, they obtained the injunction in order to see justice being done.

“We appealed against the Playoffs at the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) but we were surprised to see Sulom going ahead with the games yet the FA was yet to respond to our queries.

“So we decided to obtain the injunction in order for Sulom to wait for FAM’s decision before going ahead with the games,” he said.

Sulom’s Vice General Secretary Captain Thoko Chazama told The Malawi Star that they failed to vacate the injunction because the Courts were closed.

“We failed to remove the restraining orders because the Courts were closed but we will do whatever it takes to vacate the injunction on Monday so that the games could go ahead as planned,” he said.

On their part, FAM said they will make their decision once the injunction has been vacated by Sulom.

FIFA rules do not allow football issues to be taken to ordinary courts and if found guilty, Dedza risks a ban from all football related activities for a long time.

Last year, FA’s polls were conducted very late following restraining orders obtained by some of the candidates on the violations of some of the rules in the run up to the elections.

During an Extraordinary General Meeting, Sulom and its affiliates agreed to have 16 teams in the 2016 season but never discussed the procedure in identifying the 16th team.

Sulom had a meeting some weeks ago where they proposed to use playoffs as a procedure of identifying the 16th team, a move which did not go well with Dedza Young Soccer. They wanted an automatic place in the top flight due to their position on the log table.

As it is, Wizards are clear favorites for the 16th slot in the top flight as they defeated Airborne Rangers 2-1 on Friday afternoon.
