Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) has criticized the ongoing campaign by Coalition for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs)for promoting abortion in the country.

In its Pastoral Statement dated 13th March, the ECM stated that Pro-Abortion campaign underway in Malawi is nothing but evil.
“In the face of the new campaign termed ‘safe abortion’, we are compelled to reaffirm our position on the matter as a way of offering direction and guidance. We reiterate our position on the right to life and dignity of every human person.
In a country which is marked by trends of declining respect for human life, the Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society,” Reads the release.
The statement has further advised the CSOs that through the agents of the culture of death, campaigning for abortion legislation, human life is under direct attack.
“In these circumstances, we wish to reaffirm that every person is precious, that people are more important than things, and that the measure of every society is whether it threatens or enhances the life and dignity of the whole human person. We, therefore, appeal to our elected representatives in Parliament to promote and defend life by voting NO on such legislation,” adds the 13th march 2016 Pastoral letter on current Social-political and Economic issues in Malawi.
Recently The Malawi Star established that over 3,600 practice induced abortion and seek help from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a year.
A large number of those that practice abortion are girls under the age of twenty two.
