Official: Wizards FC Promoted

breaking sports news

After beating Airborne Rangers 2-1 on Saturday in the play-offs to identify 16th team in the upcoming 2016 Premier Soccer League season, Wizards FC are back into the top flight following Dedza Young Soccer’s decision to boycott their games.

According to information sourced by The Malawi Star, Wizards have 6 points from two games whilst Airborne Rangers have 3 points from the same number of games.

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) are yet to comment on the latest development but this publication has reliably been informed that Peter Mponda’s side is back into the top flight.

Earlier on, Dedza Young Soccer obtained a Court Injunction at Lilongwe High Court to restrain Sulom from conducting the Play-Offs in identifying the 16th team until the determination of the matter was resolved.

However, the complainants submitted their injunction to Sulom very late, allowing Wizards to host Airborne Rangers in the first fixture.

The Malawi Star then approched Football Association of Malawi (FAM) on Friday afternoon to verify whether Sulom had agreed to conduct play-offs with its affiliate or not from which the mother body revealed that minutes for the Extraordinary General Meeting in Lilongwe last

year had indeed agreed to have play offs in identifying the 16th team.

This will mean that Dedza’s complaint will bear no fruits as FAM has distanced themselves from handling the issue saying the complainants are affiliated to Sulom.
