The Mzuzu high court has sentenced 35 year old Noah Kayira to three years imprisonment with hard labor on charges of selling ARVs and other hospital drugs.

Micheck Kalawa reminded the court that Kayira was not a first offender on the case because Nkhata bay magistrate court already convicted him on the same offence in 2013.
“He just paid MK50, 000.00 and was set free but he continued his illegal deals thus he deserves a stiffer punishment,” said Kaliwa.
On his part, Kayira pleaded guilty to the offence and failed to comment further on the matter because prosecutors had enough evidence to justify the case against him.
The Malawi Star understands that Kayira was arrested on 8th December last year by the police who were tipped off about his unlawful deals by his neighbors.
Deputy Mzuzu police Publicist Cicilia Mfune who attended the court proceedings hailed the court for sentencing Kayira to such imprisonment citing that this will deter aspiring offenders on related cases.
“Both You and I know that currently our hospitals are operating in very difficult conditions without enough drugs because people like Kayira are stealing drugs from such hospitals,” she said.
The convict hails from Temi Kilipula’s area in Karonga district.
