The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) and Malawi Police service (MPS) have come under fire over last weeks’ decision to close down Jenda road block.

The Malawi Star can establish that last week, Jenda road block was removed over yet to be a specified reason.
Transporters were free to cross the road without being blocked by the Malawi Police and officials from the Malawi Revenue Authority.
The development irked locals from the surrounding areas who demanded answers from the two departments regarding the fact that Jenda is the main roadblock in the northern region.
“We are surprised with what has happened and we demand answers from the two departments as to why that happened,” said Tinkhani Beza.
Martha Ziba echoed the same sentiment while expressing worries citing that she was not even sure whether drug dealers and other criminals were utilizing the chance.
Many people who are based within Jenda are demanding urgent answers from the two institutions as to why that happened.
However when The Malawi Star team questioned Northern region Police publicist Maurice Chapola, professed ignorance on the matter citing he has no information on the same.
Th e Public relations officer for Malawi Revenue Authority, Steve Kapoloma promised to come back to us after consulting with the authorities.
“I am not aware of that but maybe you must wait for me to verify with the relevant authorities,” said Kapoloma
When The Malawi Star team questioned Northern region Police publicist Maurice Chapola, professed ignorance on the matter citing he has no information on the same.
