Chiukepo who is also flames vice captain has replaced veteran Fischer Kondowe who has been on the position for a year.

The development has come when the lethal striker wore the arm band over the weekend game when the Peoples’ team beat Dynamos of Zimbabwe 1-0 on Saturday at Kamuzu stadium and drew 0-0 on Sunday at Civo stadium respectively.

Confirming the development, Bullets technical Director Billy Tewesa said that their statutes clearly state that the captain will hold the position for just a year.

‘I can confirm that Chiukepo is our new captain. These changes will not compromise anything in our camp because we agreed that any player who has been chosen to be the captain will serve the position for just a single year just like we have been doing previously.’ said Tewesa

Tewesa said the former Orlando Pirates star will be deputized by defender Sankhani Mkandawire and Bashir Maunde as third captain.

He further said that choosing a Captain, they consider factors like discipline, seniority, conduct and influence in the team.

‘Chiukepo is one of our top and experienced players. I believe he will lead the team in good manner in this coming season. He has all the qualities to lead the players and bear in mind that he is also holding the position of vice captain in the senior nation team. So we have chosen him because we have complete trust in him.’ said Tewesa’.

Chiukepo was the leading top scorer in last year’s TNM Super League scoring 14 goals jointly with Innocent Bokosi of Red Lions. He also received the player of the season award.
