Hospital Officials in Drug Theft

Malawi Police in Thyolo district have arrested two government employees for stealing drugs at Malamulo Mission Hospital.

Police have identified the two as 22 year old Blessings Mbengwani, a Pharmacist, and Thomas Wayiyatsa, aged 42, who was the driver.

IMG-20160301-WA0015According to Thyolo Police Public Relations Officer, Edith Kachotsa, on 26th February 2016, the Pharmacist is suspected to have given the Driver a travelling bag full of Amoxycilin to sell on the black market.

But the plot was uncovered by a security guard who upon doing regular checks, found the stolen drugs concealed in Wayiyatsa’s bag.

When confronted and questioned by the guard, Wayiyatsa disclosed that the drugs belonged to Mbengwani.

The law Enforcers publicist further explained that currently the suspects are being kept in the Police custody and will appear in court soon.

 

As of now according to Kachotsa, the value for the drugs is yet to be known.

Mbengwani comes from Mongola village in Traditional Authority Kwataine in Ntcheu district while Wayiyatsa hails from MPONDA Village in area of Traditional Authority Msamala in Balaka district.
