Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has extended registration days of Presidential Cup at district level from 28 February to 5 March 2016.

The Association’s competitions manager Gomezgani Zakazaka confirmed the development to The Malawi Star publications on Monday saying the two year break that the competition had was the main reason for shifting the dates.
“We received a complaint from the district committees in which they asked us to consider extending the registration dates from 28th February to Saturday, 5th March because the competition had a two year break. It was difficult to complete the registration process within a week because some of the districts were dormant so we decided to add another week,” said Zakazaka.
He also revealed that the response from the district teams is positive despite not participating in the competitions for two solid years.
“The response is good as most of the teams are willing to take part though some of them are yet to come to terms with the registration fee which has been raised from K5000 to K10 000 and knowing that these teams are based in rural areas, we decided to give them time to source the funds in order to register.
“We have also limited the number of teams to 32 because of the time factor. Previously, districts were able to register more than 70 to 80 teams but we have limited them because we don’t want the competition to take too long before completion. Had it been that we started in January, we could have not limited the teams from registering,” he said.
Teams from the district level will start their campaign on 5th March to 12th March before sailing into the national level.
