A 40 year old man is in police custody in Nkhotakota for allegedly defiling a 12 year old girl in Nkhotakota.
The suspect, identified as Kennedy Chidothi of Kankhoma Village in the area of T/A Kanyenda in Nkhotakota was arrested yesterday (Sunday the 28th) and has admitted the allegations in preliminary police interrogations.
The mother of the young girl reported the matter to the police at Nkhunga Police Station on Saturday after discovering the crime.
According to the mother of the victim, on the said Saturday, her daughter left home in the morning to play with her friends within her neighborhood. She is reported to have gone to the suspect’s house in order to play with her friend.
About an hour later, her daughter came back and complained to her that she had a stomach ache. She gave her some medication and later got suspicious after discovering that she was having difficulties walking. She questioned her daughter which is when she learned that she had been defiled by the suspect.
In a witness statement, the girl has revealed to police that the man has defiled her on several previous occasions.
After reporting the matter to the local police, the victim was referred to Nkhunga Health Centre for medical examinations. Medics at the hospital have confirmed in a medical report that the girl was in fact defiled.
The incident occurred at Denja village in the area of T/A Kanyenda near Dwangwa Trading Centre.
The victim is a standard two pupil at Dwangwa Junior Private School.
The suspect has been charged with an offence of defilement under section 138 of the penal code. During police interrogation, the man pleaded guilty to the charges. He is expected to appear in court soon to face formal indictment.
The man works as a driver and is married with four children. He has failed to offer any explanation or motive for his actions.
