Speaking during the official opening of Masauko Chipembere Highway on Saturday morning, Mutharika said he will transform Blantyre into a magnificent city.

“My government will continue tranforming Blantyre City into a magnificent commercial city. I will demolish Kamuzu Stadium and replace it with a new state of the art stadium,” he said.

He also added that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) led government will build a five star hotel into the city.

Kamuzu Stadium has been the main football facility in Malawi but it will soon be replaced by Bingu National Stadium which will start operating this year.

The 40 thousand seater capacity facility was built by government with loans from Peoples Republic of China.

If belt in Blantyre, stadium will ease ground pressure which has seen teams playing away from city when Kamuzu Stadium is busy with non related football activities.
