A pressure group of youths who have christened themselves “Mzuzu Youth Movement” is urging Malawian President Peter Mutharika to resign over what it claims to be worse governance.
The group which is dominated by youths across the northern region and consists of about 30 youth clubs has also set anti government demonstrations to be held in Mzuzu next Monday.
Chairperson for the pressure group Sandra Kamanga confirmed about the move citing they will present their petition to Mzuzu city council on the said date.
“Preparations are underway for that and come that day we will all dress in black and red to show our mistrust with this clueless administration,” she said.
Among the main points in their petition includes government failure to eradicate hunger in the country despite numerous promises.
Furthermore, they have also raised concerns over government failure to pass what they think to be the important Access To Information Bill(ATIB).
“His government has also worsened the education sector in the country thus we want him out of the power,” added Sandra.
The MalawiStar understands that the grouping is holding regular in camera meetings at a certain lodge in Mzuzu where plans to topple Mutharika are a priority.
Separate findings allege that a certain opposition political party is catering for all expenditures in preparing the move.
However, Sandra distanced her grouping from any political party citing all funds used in preparing the move are contributed within the group.
“Wrong thinking capacity. We are not working with any political party on this, everything we do is funded by our pockets,” she said.
Meanwhile officials from Mutharika’s government have said they are not informed on the move yet.
