Police in Chiradzulu district are keeping in custody a 42 year-old-man suspected to have killed his 12 years old stepdaughter.

Chiradzulu Police Public Relations Office, Victoria Chirwa confirmed about the arrest and identified the suspect as Maxson Makota of Maulana village Traditonal Authority (T/A) Mpama in the district.
According to Police Publicist, on February 12 this year the deceased, Chimwemwe Ndawala went to her father’s garden where she harvested sugarcane.
“When the father noted, he assaulted by beating her on the forehead with a stick. She was taken to Mbulumbuzi health centre where she was treated as an outpatient.
On 14th Februaryshe was taken back to the health centre where she was pronounced dead on the same day.
Postmortem results indicated that death was due to basal skull fracture.
Makota is expected to answer murder charge contrary to section 209 of the penal code.
Police have since warned the general public to refrain from any form of abuse to children saying any perpetrator will be taken to book.
