Malawi’s renowned human rights activist, Undule Mwakasungula has donated various food and non-food materials in the area of Group Village Headman Nkhudzi in Mangochi District. Briefing journalists soon after the handover ceremony, Mwakasungula said he decided to donate the food and non-food items after the assessment report showed that people of experiencing shortage of food supplies. “I decided to come here in Mangochi because this is a neglected area. You can see the levels of poverty. People are very poor here.” said Mwakasungula.
Mwakasungula said a real human rights activist sees a person as a whole. “You see a hungry person give him food, you see a naked person give him clothes, and this is all what activism is all about. You don’t just go to the radios, but you ensure that you take action before pressing a panic button,” said Mwakasungula.
In his speech GVH Nkhudzi commended Mwakasungula for the helping hand to the needy. “Mwakasungula is a man with a helping hand, he has been coming to assist these elderly for a long time now,” said GVH Nkhudzi. The chief complained that the village is surrounded by a lake and lodges but no one has taken interest to assist. Nkhudzi urged the lodge and hotel owners to emulate the good gesture as shown by Undule.
