The ruling Malawi Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) recently expressed concern for being left out of an all-inclusive meeting with the Public Affairs Committee (PAC), a religious body which advocates for Malawians. Despite the lack of an invitation, DPP disclosed plans to attend the meeting in Blantyre.
At a press conference, DPP Secretary General Greselder Jeffrey – flanked by other senior party officials –said the party is disappointed with the conduct of the PAC.
“The DPP has observed with great shock and sadness the manner with which PAC has handled invitations to the conference. We have noted with disbelief the deliberate efforts to sideline the DPP and ensure non-participation of the party at the conference. While we hear reports of other political parties being invited, PAC has not sent any invitation to the DPP as such communication is supposed to be received by the secretary general who, sadly up to this moment, has not heard anything from PAC,” Jeffrey said.
She also asked PAC to disclose their source of funding, accusing them of creating a platform for the opposition.
“PAC is creating a platform for opposition political voices and maximizing the presence of key opposition party agents in the process leading up to the conference and during the conference itself,” Jeffrey said.
Central Region DPP Vice President Dr. Hertherwick Ntaba has since accused DPP of sidelining the ruling party and called several members out by name.
“For example, key opposition political figures have for the first time been taken on board PAC’s conference-planning sub-committees. The sub-committees are operating in the three regions in the South, Center and North of Malawi. This is evident through active participation of Mr. Moses Kunkuyu of the Transformation Alliance, Honorable George Nnesa of the MAFUNDE Party, Mr. Joseph Chikwemba of PP, Honorable Uladi Mussa of PP, who has also received tremendous politically skewed advice from the Honorable Lazarus Chakwera of MCP and Honorable Kamlepo Kalua. We have strong evidence about their meetings which sadly left out the DPP. Some anti-government activists are also part of the PAC political scheming and these include Mr. Allan Ntata and Dr. Billy Mayaya,” Ntaba said.
