The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has lost a long-serving member of its party.
Administrative Secretary Portipher Chidaya died on Saturday at Kamuzu Central Hospital after succumbing to kidney failure, MCP’s Deputy Secretary General Elsenhower Mkaka confirmed to The Star.
Mkaka spoke of Chidaya’s knowledge and character.
“As a party, we are deeply concerned because we have lost our ‘dictionary.’ In fact, he has worked with Dr. Kamuzu Banda, Gwanda Chakuamba, John Tembo, and now he was very close with Professor Lazarus Chakwera.
“Being someone who has worked with all political party presidents such as Kamuzu, Tembo and Professor Chakwera cannot be a small person,” Mkaka said.
Chidaya was laid to rest on May 29, 2017, at Area 18 Cemetery.
