Reverend Calls for Equal Treatment of LGBTQI Community

Reverend attempts to build a network for the LGBTQI community to safely access services

Executive Director of The Mango Network Reverend Canon MacDonald Sembereka has asked for equal rights and treatment for the LGBTQI community.

Executive Director of The Mango Network Reverend Canon MacDonald Sembereka has asked for equal rights and treatment for the LGBTI community. The network has amplified its voice for the support of LGBTQI members since 2015.

The reverend made his appeal in Lilongwe during a two-day training workshop that focused on the issues that people of the LGBTQI community face. Almost 30 people from Salima, Lilongwe, and Dowa participated.

“The objective of this workshop is to build a network within the LGBTQI community to identify, analyze, and avert violence that is thrown against them, that drives them underground and makes them fail to access HIV and AIDs services. Further to that, the workshop allowed participants to identify complaints and report violations of their rights,” Rev. Sembereka said.

According to the reverend, the meeting was a continuation of a similar meeting that was held in the northern city of Mzuzu in April of this year with support from the British development arm, DFID, and UNAIDS.
