At a recent youth activities event, Chairman Patrick Zebron Chilondola spoke on the importance of having youth involved in the political process
The Malawi Congress, Malawi’s main opposition political party, is in the process of undergoing a major metamorphosis ahead of the local government and presidential 2019 elections, Party Regional Committee Chair Zebron Chilondola has confirmed.
The chairman recently presided over a youth activities event organised by the Friends of Chakwera in the capital city of Lilongwe. He stressed that it was important and vital that today’s youth participate in the political process in any political party.
“Yes, it’s true. As a party we do recognize the role of our youths in development of any country. That is why we are here today with them to ensure that we give them enough support,” Chilondola said
Chilondola said the party is courting the youth so that they are able to see the party in a more attractive way. After all, young people in Malawi make up 65 percent of the entire population.
The parties are well aware that if they are not in good books with the youths then they should forget booking their own space to the State House.
On Saturday , Friends of Chakwera – a group based in the Lilongwe City Centre constituency — organised different activities at Kauma. Some of the activities included netball, football and sweeping around the market. The group also gave out cash and footballs to the deserving teams.
During the event, Chairman Chilondola appealed for unity and calm despite infighting arising from within the party. Chilondola said he is aware that the youths are angry with the inside revolts within the party.
“I am urging you my fellow youths to remain united and ensure that you don’t take the law in your hands,” he said.
Chilondola said the problems happening in the party will be dealt with within the party.
Regional Youths Chair Goodwin Mseka has also been calling on the young people to go observe four corner stones who are pillars of the party.
Mseka said the party decided to clean the market after noting how sullied it had become.
Senior Group Village Headman Kauma has since commended MCP for the good cause.
SGVHM Kauma urged others to emulate what MCP has done.
Recently, MCP secretary General Gustav Kalio came out in the open where he criticised MCP President Dr Lazarus Chakwera asking him to call for convention.
Recently, the MCP youths have also been planting trees in various places within the Capital City Lilongwe.
