Malawi’s leading mobile telecommunications company Airtel on Monday donated relief items worth MK5 million to Mzuzu flood victims.

Speaking during the donation, Airtel corporate affairs Manager Norah Chavula said as a company they thought it wise to make a donation as a way of showing solidarity with the flood victims.
“As a leading mobile network provider, we thought it wise to donate these assorted items to our fellow citizens and we also call upon all well-wishers to support those who are affected”. Chavula said.
She also used the opportunity to tell Airtel customers that they were launching Ndife Amodzi which is a fundraising campaign that was implemented last year. Airtel customers will send a message to code 140 as one way to assist the flood victims.
In his remarks Mzuzu City Mayor William Mkandawire showed his gratitude to Airtel for the donation saying it has come at a right time.
Airtel donated 10 bags of flower, cups, bails of Sugar ,chlorine, blankets, soya flour, cooking oil, pails and plastic bags.
