Recently, the bureau officials suspended operations of four companies in three cities of Malawi due to non-compliance with hygienic conditions as stipulated in Malawi Standard Number 21 of Food and Food processing units.

According to a statement from the bureau, it suspended with immediate effect the operations of Lingadzi Inn, Capital City Motel and Seven -Eleven bakery situated in Kilipula building in Lilongwe.

All have been suspended following unhygienic conditions in their business premises. The bureau further advised Malawians to stop conducting businesses with the suspended institutions until further notice from the bureau.

“The MBS wishes to advise the general public against patronizing Lingadzi Inn, Capital City Motel and Seven-Eleven until the hygienic conditions have been improved and the suspension lifted by the MBS,” reads part of the statement.

Suspension of these companies has come barely a day after the bureau also suspended operations of Cafe Lounge situated at Chichiri Shopping Mall in the City of Blantyre due to similar reasons.

In the period of two months, the bureau has managed to suspend about ten different companies.

Some of them are Malawi Sun Hotel and Shire Highlands Hotel among others.
