Speaking to The Malawi Star during the event at Mponda CCAP Mission, Chitete said the festival was aimed at bringing his constituents from different denominations together to praise God through singing.

“As Member of Parliament for this constituency, I decided to organise this gospel music show as one way of giving back to the people of my constituency.

This is not a competition but a celebration. The people have supported me in my political career and in my vision to develop this area,” he said.

Chitete added that the show was meant to keep the youth, women, and men busy to avoid indulging themselves in bad manners that can put their lives at risk. During the gospel show, Chitete donated K10, 000 each to 35 choir groups, which participated in the gospel show to help them buy group uniforms.

“We expect to hold another show in July this year at Kapiri to support more choirs and each choir will receive K15, 000 for participating in the show,” He added.

Apart from the Gospel show, Chitete also sponsors the Pompopompo Football and Netball Bonanza in Mchinji North-East Constituency worth K10 million.

Last year, the MP also hosted the Pompopompo Gospel explosion show, where 23 choirs from different denominations participated.
