Police in Mangochi district have arrested one person and two others are at large who are suspected of breaking into Chibuku Products Factory in the district and went away with cash and various items worth MK10 million.

Confirming the incident to The Malawi Star, Eastern Region Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Autilia Kumanga, said the incident occurred on Monday evening as the criminals broke into the offices after tying up the Security Guards who were on duty.
“It was around 01:00hours when they broke into the factory after tying the Watch men , they went into various offices at the factory and stole cash and different items,” said the Spokesperson
Kumanga further disclosed that at the factory the suspected criminals stole cash and items that so far have been valued to MK10 million.
“They stole cash amount to MK 9,689,168.00, one laptop worthy MK250,000.00, Drivers’allowances MK218,168.00, Chibuku Products clothes valued at MK126,080.00, petty cash amount MK43,236.00, a wireless router and laptop,” explained Kamanga.
She said Offices that the robbers went into are, Operations Manager Office, Cashiers Office, Sales Office, Accounts Office and Stores Office.
Later after the matter was reported to Police and after they had a follow up, they arrested one suspect who has been identified a 27 year old Innocent Buleki.
He was arrested at Chimwala roadblock as he was driving a blue Toyota Carina registration number SA 9068 and money amounting to Mk4,535,990.00 in cash together with a laptop battery , USB and a router.
Kumanga said the Suspect was also found with other weapons believed to have been used during the breaking into the premises. She has said currently the investigations team is busy hunting for the other Suspects.
“At this moment investigations are under way to trace the two remaining suspects who escaped and the remaining items and cash,” added Kumanga.
Innocent Buleki comes from Kanono Village, Traditional Authority Symon in Neno district.
