Malawi’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has branded main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and former ruling People’s Party as Hyenas.

Speaking on Friday afternoon at Nchalo ground in Chikhwawa district at a political rally, DPP Secretary-General Ecklen Kudomtoni ordered state-run Malawi Broadcasting Cooperation Television (MBCTV) to beam the cloud that gathered at the function to shame opposition parties. He said MCP and PP have to witness the cloud for themselves.

“Let me ask the cameraman to take videos of people who are here for them to see if the rally that was in Ndilande  which some of the televisions beamed. You should compare if this rally and of that organized by Hyenas are the same,” said Kudomtoni.

Ironically, MCP had a rally last weekend in Blantyre at Nyambadwe Primary School ground and PP held its own at Makhetha ground.

Some local media reported that less than 500 people attended. The reports were brushed by MCP  Deputy General Secretary Ezekiel  Ching’oma who described it as unethical reporting.

Kudomtoni further accused former leader Joyce Banda of stealing tax payers money which she is currently using in her stay in South Africa.

According to Kudomtoni, Malawians should be angry with Joyce Banda for the suffering the country is experiencing.

“These Hyenas will not reach 2019, instead of resolving their problems in their party; they are busy arguing with Mutharika. Malawians should be angry with Joyce Banda for the current situation,” he added.

In an interview with The Malawi Star, MCP’s general secretary Jessie Kabwila described Kudomtoni as a headless chicken. Kabwila said DPP leadership is disgruntled hence wedging war using sensitive languages.

“How are we hyenas, what is he saying that we are doing or not doing, why labeling that name and who is a hyena in MCP,” questioned Kabwila.
