Barely days after being fired from the state house’s Press Secretary position and redeployed to the Ministry of Information to work as a technical advisor, Gerald Viola has revealed his plans of becoming a member of parliament.

Viola, who was fired on Wednesday made these remarks during Capital fm “Straight talk” programme yesterday night.
The programme which exclusively talks about his future after serving at the state house from April in 2015 to April 4 this year welcomed the chop describing it as ‘normal.’
“My redeployment has nothing to do with incompetence. For me am not worried from being sent back to the Ministry of Information. It’s a normal move and I respect the president’s idea. It’s not firing as people are saying in the social media because if you are fired you pack your things and go,” said Viola.
However, asked if he has plans to join politics and became an MP, Viola said “Yes of course who knows maybe in the near future, I will represent people from my village. I am a DPP member and I support the party. Maybe if God wills to try my luck because I have been following the political circle for many years now, ” He Said.
Commenting if he has dumped his role as a journalist viola said, “No. Am a journalist and I will die a journalist. I still have the passion for writing. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in mass communication that’s why I like the job and even the reason I am employed in the Ministry of Information.
“But right now my focus is on my studies as am pursuing my bachelor’s degree in public administration with the calibre of work that I am doing now .I would rather be called Dr Viola at the end of my studies in January 2018,” viola explained.
Meanwhile, some social- political commentators have described President Peter Mutharika’s firing of three state house press secretaries in less than two years as a sign of poor public officers’ appointment process.
In just a period of 23 months that Mutharika has been in office, he has hired and fired former Malawi news editor Frederick Ndala, MBC presenter Timpunza Mwansambo with the latest casualty being former director of information, Gerald Viola.
Viola has been sent back to the Ministry of Information as a technical advisor replacing the former press secretary Frederick Ndala.
