The abduction of one-year-old baby Whitney Chilumpha is the latest murder for body parts used by witch doctors, The Malawi Star has learnt.
A one-year-old girl with albinism has gone missing in Malawi Kasungu district after the discovery of fortune for body parts used by witch doctors.
Chilumpha was kidnapped when unidentified men broke into her house on late Monday when the mother was fast asleep.
According to the source from the district, the baby was abducted in the absence of her father.
However, he identified the mother as 25 years Madalitso Leman of Chiziya Village,Traditional Authority (TA) Kapelura in the same district.
The source confirmed, “The suspected criminals found their way by entering the house after opening a grass shutter and abducted the child. The mother woke up at around 4 AM and noticed that the baby was gone.”
So far no arrest has been made but police investigations are underway and have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
Body parts from people with albinism are removed to make charms and spells that witch doctors claim bring good luck and wealth.
The body parts sell for around $600 (£389) in Tanzania, with an entire corpse fetching $75,000 (£48,619), according to the United Nations (UN).
