The Malawi government has now expressed its desires to commence with immediate effect the Livingstonia-Chitimba road project after a lengthy delay.
Minister of transport and public works, Francis Kasaila, confirmed the development to Malawi Star and attributed the delay to harsh weather conditions which dominated the area.
Kasaila went on to brush aside recent local media reports which claimed that the project has been suspended because some government officials embezzled funds meant for the same.
“Those were only political propagandas but the real truth is that the project will commence within this month,” said Kasaila.
Meanwhile, the project contractor has already been chosen according to Katsaira.
Once complete, the road will help ease mobility problems faced by people from the two areas- Livingstonia and Chitimba.
