Police in Dedza district has nabbed a woman who killed her own newly born baby and buried him in the bush.

Confirming the arrest Dedza police deputy publicist Cassim Manda identified the suspect as Ethel Kaziputa (25) who hails from Gwazadwale village, T/A Kasumbu in the district.
This development has happened soon after the police arrested another couple for chopping off the private parts of their own newly born baby and concealing birth.
Manda said “The suspect was impregnated by a certain man who refused to marry her. When time to deliver approached, she went to a nearby bush where she gave birth to a baby boy and then buried him.
“When she went back home she did not tell anyone about the incident until people noticed that she was neither pregnant nor having the baby. Well wishers tipped us and after we visited the scene of the crime we found the baby in a decomposition state,” he said.
This did not go well with the villagers who brutally beat the woman.
Meanwhile, the suspect is admitted at Dedza district hospital where she is under police guard and she will soon answer charges of Concealing Birth which is contrary to section 232 of the penal code.
