Police have identified the deceased as Mphatso Chinguwo, from Undi Village, Traditional Authority Kalonga in Salima.

In an interview with The Malawi Star, Nkhotakota Police Spokesperson Williams Kaponda said that efforts to save the deceased by well-wishers proved to be futile.

‘‘The two (Mphatso Chinguwo and Alfred Green) are tailors who reported at their workplace today and in the course of working, the deceased suddenly fell down. Green rushed to call for help, people rushed to the scene, and first aid was administered but it was rather too late for Chinguwo,’’ said Kaponda.

The Police Publicist further said that the Police rushed to the scene together with Medical personnel from Alinafe Hospital.

A post-mortem conducted at Alinafe Hospital shows that the deceased consumed a lot of alcohol on an empty stomach. Further allegations point out that Mr. Chinguwo drunk a large quantity of liquor without eating any food hence the death.

The police have issued a warning against the tendency by many people mainly the youth who consumes alcohol on empty stomachs to take care of themselves by looking after their own health.
