The Malawi Police in Mangochi district are keeping in custody a 42-year-old Woman on suspicions of possessing drugs without a valid licence.

Police have identified the suspect as Sainati Mangochi and have charged her with possession of medical drugs contrary to section 4(a) of dangerous drugs and poison board act.
According to Mangochi Police Station deputy public relations officer, Sergeant Amina Daudi, The Woman was cornered at Mangochi Police roadblock when a vehicle was used by the suspect was searched.
It is said that on 22nd March, 2016 at around 10:00 am, Mangochi Police stationed at one of the roadblocks in the district, conducted a search on a certain vehicle and where they found various drugs hidden inside it.
Among the impounded drugs, were four tins of indocin each containing about 1000 capsules, two tins of amoxicillin containing 1000 capsules each, three tins of doxycycline and 10 packets of diclofenac of 50mg.
As we went to press, Police in the district said a manhunt has been launched for another suspect in connection with the case.
The Suspect hails from Chomba village in the area of Traditional Authority Mponda in the district.
Cases of drug theft have been on the rise as recently law enforcers in Mulanje district arrested a 45-year-old man, Alexander Chigalu for a similar offence.
Just a few days ago, 52-year-old Owen Gama was also handcuffed in Kasungu district on the similar offence.
These cases come at a time when drug shortage in hospitals is becoming a public outcry.
