Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has announced that Super League Champions Big Bullets will play host to Carlsberg Cup winner Mighty Wanderers in the FA’s Chifundo Shield Cup at Civo Stadium next month.

The FA President Walter Nyamilandu made the revelation at Mpira Village in Chiwembe on Monday afternoon during the official partnership signing ceremony with Malawi Blood Transfusion Services (MBTS) which will see the two parties working together in mobilizing Malawians to donate blood to the needy before and after the match.
Nyamilandu also announced that every penny realized from the showdown will proceed to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH).
“The two teams will battle it out in the Chifundo Shield Cup at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on 9th April, 2016 and every penny realized from the match will proceed to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH). From today onwards, the cup will be called Chifundo Shield Cup and we will be doing this every season, a week before kicking off the new season,” said Nyamilandu.
Bullets won the Super League last season whilst Wanderers won Carlsberg Cup in the same soccer season.
The Shield Cup will be the first of its kind organized by the country’s FA. During the ceremony, Nyamilandu said the event will cost the FA K12 million.
On the match day, MBTS and FAM will mobilize Malawians to donate blood to the needy.
According to MBTS, 80 thousand units of blood are needed annually but so far, only 30 thousand units have been collected hence pleading with Malawians to embrace the initiative even before the match day.
