Peoples Party (PP) Officials Accused of Paying Thugs

Cold war has erupted in the former ruling People’s Party (PP) where officials are accusing each other of hiring thugs who are disrupting the meetings of the party in the country.

In an interview with The Malawi Star on Friday 26^th February the party’s Northern region provincial chairman Sherbone Mchizi said there are a lot of officials behind such thugs whom he branded “criminals.”

Mchizi who succeeded the fired Christopher Mzomera Ngwira further revealed that the National Executive Committee (NEC) has since fired about six officials over the same suspicion

“They are Cliff Kondowe, Clive Nthakomwa, Bridget Nkhoma, Lloyd Njaliwa, Venter Kondowe and Fanwell Simwaka,” he said.

However, on their part, the fired members claimed they didn’t receive official communication on the matter.

They further challenged that there is no one within the party who can fire them. citing that all the authority coming from the current leader Uladi Mussah is invalid.

“We are not aware of that but even if that may be the case, nobody has the authority to fire us from the party,” said Cliff Kondowe who echoed related sentiments from his colleagues.

Nonetheless, The Malawi Star has accessed a document dated 25th February highlighting the firing of the six officials.

Among others the document ordered them to return anything that belongs to the party within seven days.

However, in a separate interview with the party’s publicity secretary Mr Kenneth Msonda, he expressed shock citing the party is not aware of the firing.

Msonda then said he needed more time to consult because he had no knowledge on the development.

“NEC is not aware of that and I am learning about this from you. We haven’t fired anybody apart from Mzomera Ngwira. If that is the case then let me consult before and I will come back to you,” Said Msonda.

Meanwhile The Malawi Star understands that there is still misunderstanding within the party as a result of the leadership crisis.

A certain section hates Mchizi and Uladi Mussah but opts for Khumbo Kachali.
