Indian Hemp Farmer Arrested

Police in Lilongwe have arrested a 28 year old Affet Simoya for being suspected of cultivating illegal Indian hemp in his house backyard.

According to Lilongwe Police deputy spokesperson Constable Margret Selemani, the convict was nabbed by the law enforcers after receiving a tip from some members of the community.

“We received a tip from some members of the community that the convict was farming the illegal Indian hemp at his house backyard and we invaded the area where we found 26 plants of Chamba and we uprooted it and arrested him on the spot,” said Constable Selemani.

Meanwhile, Police have taken the plants to Chitedze Research Station for examination and if results comes out positive, Simoya will answer charges of cultivating Chamba contrary to Dangerous Drug  Act.

The suspect hails from Mkhwambala Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kalolo in Lilongwe district.
