Reports reaching The Malawi Star shows that Leader of Opposition Party and President of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Lazarus Chakwera is at Kanengo Police in connection with the arrest of Ulemu Msungama.
Msungama who is a top official in MCP is reportedly to have being arrested by
Police on Sunday for treason charges.
According to MCP lawmaker Juliana Lunguzi, Chakwera and other party members have gathered at Kanengo Police to visit Msungama.
Meanwhile, MCP deputy Spokesperson Ezekiel Chin’goma is yet to verify the reports that police are also hunting for Dr Jessie Kabwila.
Said Chin’goma in a phone interview with The Malawi Star, “Am also just hearing the news about Kabwira. Some are saying she is arrested and others are saying she is on the run. All these are just rumors as of now. Once i verify everything i will let you know.”
Msungama is detained with allegations that they are planning to overthrow the Malawi president and leader of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Peter Mutharika.
